Attention: Parents of 8th Graders
HONORS INFO
This year your son/daughter will make decisions about classes he/she will take at Arrowhead High School. Honors classes (English, Social Studies and Science) are unique classes for gifted and highly able learners who have distinctly different academic and social needs. In these classes the content of the subject is pursued at a faster pace, with modified approaches which include adding more depth and complexity.
If you feel your child might be a candidate for any honors class, the high school is asking us to encourage him/her to take the ACT test on December 11, 2010. The ACT test will provide additional information about your child’s academic abilities and this will be helpful to determine if an honors class is a good match for him/her. Also ACT offers a writing component to the test and the high school is encouraging that test as well.
As early as mid-July, you will be able to go on line to register http://www.actstudent.org/regist/dates.html your child. The Arrowhead Area GT Coordinators have secured Lake Country School as our 8th grade testing site. We are informing you early due to the space available at the ACT test sites- high school students register over the summer and in the past we had interested 8th grade students unable to test at our Lake Country School location . It is comfortable for the 8th graders to take the test with grade-level peers- otherwise they take it at a high school site with only high school students.
There will be more information about honors classes in the fall but we wanted to give you a heads-up on the possibility of registering for the ACT over the summer. If you have questions, please call me, email or stop in.
