Student Council
North Shore Middle School is proud of the extensive work and dedication by our student council. Under the direction of teacher Ms. Julie Zeman, students have opportunities to participate and direct many activities and events. Building and fostering leadership, collaboration, cooperation, appreciation for others, and school spirit are the corner stones of North Shore's Student Council. Members of the student council describe involvement as "being a person people want to follow, making the right choices and being a role model."

Events and activities sponsored by the council include 'Open Gym Night' giving kids a venue for socializing in a safe and controlled environment. Other events, such as spirit days, dances, and the staff appreciation breakfast and luncheon greatly help to build a school climate of support as well as generating a positive atmosphere. Students serving on the council exclaim that it's a great amount of hard work, with students often having to give up their time after school and on weekends. A key aspect of this group is being involved in community service. The students have raised money for the local food pantry and visit a senior citizen center every month, where they interact with residents and make gifs for them.

Currently, North Shore Middle School has over 75 students actively involved in student council. "We're a well rounded group," said one member. A newly elected officer described being on student council as, "it provides you with an opportunity to lead by example, and we hope by doing that it will extend to others." It also teaches students who participate a sense of responsibility. They have to attend a summer leadership camp, attend meetings and are held accountable for any position they hold or committee they are part of.
