About Us

Hartland-Lakeside is a community oriented school district with high quality programs and services. It is located in the Village of Hartland, Wisconsin, and serves the Village of Hartland and the Towns of Delafield, Merton, and Pewaukee.

We are a kindergarten through eighth grade system with a student population of 1336.  Hartland North is K-2nd grades, Hartland School of Community Learning and Hartland South are grades 3-5,  LIFE Charter School is grades 6-8, and North Shore Middle School is 6-8.  Attendance is determined by the location of your residence.  Upon completion of eighth grade at North Shore Middle School, students attend Arrowhead High School.

State-of-the-Art Facilities
As of 2002, Hartland-Lakeside offers newly remodeled and renovated elementary schools at Hartland North and South.  North Shore Middle School was constructed in 1997.  The original Lakeside School, now called "The Little Red Schoolhouse," has been updated and renovated to its original look.

High Test Scores
Our students consistently score well above the state average on the WKCE (Wisconsin Knowledge and Concepts Examination) in Reading, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.

Smaller Class Sizes
Hartland-Lakeside offers a low student/teacher ratio, making class sizes smaller than state requirements.

Special Education
Hartland-Lakeside offers a full continuum of Special Education services.  All services are offered to students on campus, eliminating busing to other schools.

Technology
Our technology plan includes state of the art hardware and software that encompasses technological resources into our student learning goals as well as expanding resources for our instructional staff. Technology is only one tool that is used to differentiate instruction to address needs for all levels of learning. All of these resources transform our classrooms into 21st Century learning environments to prepare our students for becoming contributing members of the global society.

Middle School Curriculum
We are the only Arrowhead feeder district to offer a full interdisciplinary Middle School curriculum designed to prepare students for high school.  We use a house system (a team of teachers responsible for the same group of students) offering students advisory time, exploration time and a core curriculum with a choice of quality electives.

Quality Teaching Staff
Over 65% of our teachers have Master's Degrees.  All teachers have the opportunity to continue their education in our industry-leading "Teacher's Academy," offering additional professional training.  We're the only feeder district and one of the few in the nation to offer the Teacher's Academy as part of a larger system for continuous improvement.  Hartland-Lakeside also offers a mentor program for new teachers, pairing them with experienced teachers, to support them in all areas of teaching.

Continuous Improvement
Hartland-Lakeside uses a "Continuous Quality Improvement" process consisting of a team council of parents, teachers, school board members, and administrators who meet monthly to monitor all district improvement efforts.

Sports
Hartland-Lakeside offers interscholastic and intramural sports programs to levels 5-8 in basketball, volleyball, cross country, golf, gymnastics and wrestling.  All students in good standing are able to participate.

Gifted and Talented
Our Gifted and Talented program provides quality educational experiences by helping to raise the level of instruction for all students.  The gifted program is woven into the total fabric of each school's culture and indirectly affects all children.  The Hartland-Lakeside District recognizes the need to provide meaningful learning experiences to students with exceptional capabilities and interests in one or more of the following areas: general intellectual ability, specific academic ability, creative ability, and leadership.

Arts
Hartland-Lakeside offers a variety of programs geared towards the arts, including drama, creative writing, music, band, choir, individual music instruction, and art classes.

Leadership Programs
Student programs such as Peer Mediation, Student Service Club, Student Council, S.O.D.A. (Students Opposed to Drugs and Alcohol), and the Media Team among others, offer students the chance to develop and display leadership capabilities within their peer group.

Lunch
Our lunch program is headed by a registered dietician, ensuring healthy well-balanced eating choices for students.  We also participate in the National School Lunch program and offer a la carte selections at NSMS.

Parent Teacher Organization
We have a community of caring families that are active in PTO groups in each of our schools.  PTO's participate in school committees and work with teachers to ensure a supportive school environment.
